Yamato Students Earn Medals at the Karate Ontario Grand Prix 2
Yamato Academy of Martial Arts students recently competed at the Karate Ontario Grand Prix 2 competition.

Ten students of Yamato Academy of Martial Arts recently competed at the Karate Ontario Grand Prix 2 competition in Stoney Creek, with seven earning medals.

In sparring, Ryan Brooks won gold while Haydn Wiese, Melissa Li, Ruhi Suvarna and Jordan Salehi claimed bronze. In kata, Cyrus Sedaghat earned silver, with George Proner, Li and Suvarna winning bronze.

Igor Barychev, Tejpreet Bhatti and Nicolas Farentino also competed at the meet, one of four grand prix events to determine qualification for the Karate Ontario team. Each student competed in the kata and kumite (sparring) divisions for their belt rank and individual ages.

Yamato Academy of Martial Arts focuses on the Goju Ryu method of karate and self defence.
